The Hebrew Month of Iyar 2021

    04.14.21 |

"Time" characterizes the month of Iyar. It is a transition month. Time is always moving. It's a certain time now, one nanosecond later, it's a different time. Time is not static. It's on the move.

There are two words for time - chronos and kairos. We are just living our lives (chronos), then we go through a transition (kairos) and in that moment everything changes. Below is a story of two people, just living their chronos lives and a kairos happens.

*A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which read, I am blind, please help. There were only a few coins in the hat - spare change from people as they hurried past living their chronos lives. A man walked by, dropped some coins into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it over and wrote some words. He put the sign back in the boy's hand so everyone who walked by could see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign returned to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, are you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write? The man said, I only wrote the truth. I said, today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it. Both signs spoke the truth. The first sign simply said the boy was blind, while the second conveyed to everyone walking by how grateful they should be to see. Kairos happened for the blind boy and the man who changed the sign.

Another characteristic of Iyar is "abundance on display." The man and the generous people in this story were putting abundance on display.

An additional characteristic of Iyar is "words impact reality." Changing the wording on the sign affected the boy and the people.

Every person has a "time." Ecclesiastes says everything has a time. When someone's time comes - it can't be stopped. When it's time for something, whatever it is - boom, it happens. Whether we are the boy on the steps or the creative man passing by. Time is moving.

One last thing concerning timeframes and timelines that are way evident in this season of time. Passover was celebrated in the month of Nissan, Nissan 15 to be exact. If for some reason a sacrifice could not be brought to the temple during that time, Iyar 14 was a "second chance" time/day. Iyar is the month of the second chance! With sincere effort, yesterday's missed moment can become today's opportunity.

The general message of this month is that it is never too late. No matter what situation we find ourselves in, no matter where we are in our faith walk, we can always reset the clock, take a step forward and head towards kairos.

    Iyar Declarations:
    • The sign over my life has been rewritten.
    • I am moving into kairos.
    • It's never too late.
    • Abundance is now on display in my life.

Thank you so much for your continued support. You are the greatest. We are sending this blessing from the Message Bible, "I came that they would have eternal life and their earthly life would be better than they ever dreamed of."

All Things Are Beautiful In His Time,

    Sandy Newman and DeeAnn Ward
